Dr. Abu T.M. Sayem

Brief Background:  Abu received his Ph.D. degree from the University of South Carolina (USC) in December 2007. Earlier he received his Masters of Engineering (M.E.) degree in Electrical Engineering from USC in 2007. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in September, 1999. From February 2000 to October 2000 he worked for Ekushey Television Ltd. and from November 2000 to August 2003 he worked for Grameen Phone Ltd., Dhaka, Bangladesh as an RF engineer. His research interests include miniature antennas, specific absorption rate (SAR) and bio-electromagnetics. He is the author/coauthor of several journal articles, one book chapter, and various conference papers. His dissertation title was Designing Electrically Small Antennas and the Effect of their Radiation on Humans.

 

Dr. Khan M.Z. Shams

Graduated: 2007

Brief Background: Khan M. Z. Shams received his Ph.D. degree from the University of South Carolina (USC) in December 2007. Earlier he received his B.Sc.  and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Bangladesh University of  Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. He was a faculty member of BUET from 1998 to 2003. Shams joined the Microwave Engineering Laboratory in the Fall of 2003. His research interests are on embedded antenna design for wireless communications, wireless sensors, metamaterials, and metamaterial and antenna interaction. He has authored/coauthored several journal and conference papers. His dissertation title was Novel Embedded Antennas and Engineered Materials in Wireless Communications and Sensing.

 

 

 

Dr. Guangli Yang 
Graduated: 2005
Current Placement: Motorola Inc., Holtsville, NY   

Brief Background:
Guangli Yang received his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina (USC) in December 2005. He joined the Microwave Engineering Laboratory as a graduate research assistant in August 2002.  He did his Masters in Computer Engineering at USC and Bachelor in Physics from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing, China. During his Ph.D. studies at USC, he focused on conformal multifunctional antennas and rectifying circuits for microwave power beaming and wireless communication. Currently he is working with Motorola in Holtsville, New York as a Senior Electrical Engineer. His research activities include multifunctional antennas, reconfigurable antennas, diversity antennas, switch technologies, and Hearing Aid and SAR studies for cellular phone applications. Dr. Yang authored/coauthored several journal and conference articles. His dissertation title was Conformal Multi-functional Antennas and Rectifying Circuits for Wireless Communication and Microwave Power Beaming.

Dr. Faisal Abedin

Background: Faisal Abedin received his Ph.D. degree from the University of South Carolina in December 2005. Earlier he received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1999 and his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina in 2001. His research interests are in Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) Structures and their antenna applications, antenna miniaturization, diversity antennas, and mobile phone antennas. Currently Dr. Abedin is working for Motorola in Libertyville, IL on cell phone antenna design, testing and integration. Dr. Abedin authored/coauthored several journal and conference papers. His dissertation title was Miniaturization and Gain Enhancement of Wideband Low-profile Antennas on Engineered Structures.

Yanwei Hu

Background:
Yanwei Hu joined the Microwave Engineering Laboratory as a graduate research assistant in August 2003 for her Masters studies. Currently, she is working for Motorola, in Libertyville, IL as a senior electrical engineer focusing on cell phone antenna design, testing and integration. Prior to joining USC, she did her Bachelors from the Electrical Engineering Department in Yanshan University in China. In the Microwave Engineering Laboratory, she was working on broadband CPW-feed modified folded slot antenna design.
