Professor Dougal awarded CEC Joseph M Biedenbach Distinguished Service Award


Professor Roger Dougal was recently awarded the College of Engineering and Information Technology’s Joseph M. Biedenbach Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes particularly distinguished service to the engineering profession while associated with the USC College of Engineering and Information Technology. Professor Dougal’s career of 26 years has been marked with outstanding teaching, impressive research, and excellence in service to the profession and to his department, college, and university. He has initiated a large number of outreach activities targeted at improving science, technology, engineering, and math literacy in the K-12 levels, many of them centering around robotics-related activities. As a member of the University Committee on Tenure and Promotion, he has spent many hours leading the efforts on the new electronic T&P file formats and documents. He has recently been in the newspapers about the new Carolina Baseball Stadium scoreboard which is partly powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. Professor Dougal is the first Thomas Gregory Professor of Electrical Engineering which recognizes excellence in teaching and advisement and commitment to the quality of student life. As developer of the Virtual Test Bed in the Power Electronics group, his contributions are significant and noteworthy.
