This seminar concerns development of transferable skills by the new graduates in their work placement program in the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) degree. The seminar presents the graduates’ perception on the transferable skills gained in the work placement and how the experience of the work placement helps them cope with the transition from university to the workplace. The research results are the outcomes of an on-line survey of approximately 255 new EEE graduates.
Nowadays transferable skills become pre-requisite for workplaces. The transferable or the generic skills and abilities include analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, teamwork, adequate flexibility, lifelong learning, interpersonal and good communication skills. The transferable skills are earned abilities that one gains by using knowledge and practice, as opposed to mere talent. This seminar will highlight the importance of transferable skills and abilities developed in engineering students and how the skills and abilities can be implemented in the formal university curriculum
